CMS Redesign

LiveLike Inc

The spark for revolutionizing the CMS ignited from the glaring disparities that muddled each section, creating a bewildering maze for users. Subtle yet profound elements such as typography, button styles, and color palettes, which intuitively steer users along the most essential pathways, were riddled with inconsistency.

These divergences presented a challenge to our design team as they navigated uncharted waters, devoid of a guiding design system to steer them. This not only hindered creativity but also hampered efficiency, as the developers found themselves continually crafting new style sheets with each CMS feature's introduction, a process that was time-consuming.

At a critical moment in the CMS's development, we started a big project: a full redesign of the CMS interface, using the strong foundation of the CMS Design System. This transformation was not just about aesthetic enhancements; it was a comprehensive reimagining of the user experience. The journey unfolded in several phases, each marked by a relentless pursuit of excellence.

The primary phase commenced with a transformative Design Thinking workshop. I convened a diverse array of roles and perspectives from across the company, fostering an environment where collective vision could flourish. Our overarching aim was to uncover any prevailing challenges and determine user experience pitfalls within the CMS, paving the way for the redesign to address these concerns and ultimately usher in an era of heightened excellence for the product.

Based off of the Design Thinking workshop and additional user research, it became apparent that I needed to plan for a wider spectrum of users. Therefore, I crafted vivid user personas that represented the multifaceted user base, spanning social media managers, chat moderators, product owners, and beyond. These personas subsequently served as the foundational framework through which we tackled the UX challenges.

With our vision crystallized, I embarked on the laborious task of translating it into reality. Armed with the CMS Design System, I meticulously crafted new interfaces and user flows for every facet of the CMS landscape. There were more than seventeen distinct sections, encompassing leaderboards, rewards, quests, account settings, and numerous others. These designs were not just aesthetic overhauls; they were thoughtfully crafted to optimize usability, efficiency, and overall user satisfaction.

Over a span of three to four months, the screens underwent an iterative journey of redesign and refinement. Each element was scrutinized, refined, and polished to perfection, ensuring that the final product would be nothing short of exceptional. I assumed the responsibility of crafting thorough documentation, thereby guaranteeing consistency for future designers as they applied these guidelines to new feature sections of the CMS.

As the designs matured, my role evolved into that of an ad hoc product manager where I developed spreadsheets to diligently track the implementation of each page by the development team. These documents became our guiding compass, helping to estimate the development timeline, providing a tangible progress report to the leadership team. This detailed approach not only ensured a smooth development process but also allowed us to manage expectations, enabling the company to inform current and potential clients about the impending transformation.

The CMS redesign project wasn't merely about visual aesthetics; it was a testament to my commitment to delivering an exceptional user experience. It showcased my ability to collaborate, innovate, and execute a vision that would revolutionize the way the company’s users interacted with the platform. This project was a testament to my dedication to excellence and an unwavering focus on user-centric design principles.
